Work Zones Everywhere
The 2026 road construction season is going to be one of the largest in U.S. history and anyone using the roads should be prepared for what’s coming.
In-cab audio, produced by cameras, is designed to provide real-time feedback to drivers when a potentially unsafe situation is detected. These alerts typically come in the form of a beep or brief spoken warning, giving drivers an opportunity to immediately correct their behavior and prevent a more serious event.
In-can coaching serves as an early warning system. When a driver responds promptly, the issue can often be corrected before it escalates into a recorded violation or even a crash. This proactive feedback helps improve overall safety and reduce risk on the road.
Common Audio Alerts
Speeding:
When a driver goes over a preset speed, an in-cab alert sounds to prompt them to slow down. If the driver does not reduce their speed within a short window of time, the event may escalate into a violation. Continued speeding may trigger repeated alerts.
Following Distance:
Camera systems also monitor following distance. When a vehicle gets too close to traffic ahead, the camera will issue a warning. Maintaining proper following distance helps prevent rear-end collisions, improves overall roadway safety, and reduces operating costs.
Why It Matters
In-cab audio alerts are not meant to punish drivers. They are tools designed to prevent accidents before they happen. By responding quickly to these warnings, drivers can avoid violations, reduce downtime, and operate more safely and efficiently.
A few seconds of correction can make a significant difference in protecting your license, your equipment, and everyone on the road.

With the upcoming CVSA International Roadcheck 2026 focus on ELD tampering, ICSA wanted to remind members some things that they need to know about their ELDs.
In March, ICSA’s executive director Shawn Nelson was privileged to attend the annual conference for the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). Truckload 2026 was packed with information that ICSA is committed to bringing back to its members.
