Operation Safe Driver Set for July 13-19, 2025

Cracking Down on Reckless Driving

As in past years, Operation Safe Driver Week 2025 will focus on one of the most dangerous threats on our roadways: reckless, careless, and dangerous driving behaviors.

Throughout this dedicated enforcement campaign, law enforcement officers across North America will not only be monitoring commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers but also passenger vehicle drivers for unsafe driving behaviors. These include:

  • Speeding
  • Tailgating
  • Distracted driving
  • Improper lane changes
  • Failing to obey traffic signals
  • Driving under the influence
  • Aggressive driving and road rage

These behaviors are a leading cause of crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving CMVs and passenger vehicles alike. Data continues to show that 75% of truck-involved crashes are caused by actions of passenger vehicle drivers.

During last year’s event, tens of thousands of drivers were pulled over for speeding and reckless driving, the top violations. This year, CVSA is doubling down, reminding everyone that safe driving saves lives.

How Carriers and Drivers Can Prepare:

  • Review the internal safety protocols
  • Discuss safe driving habits with their team
  • Avoid speeding and aggressive maneuvers
  • Keep distractions out of the cab

Marijuana Rescheduling and Truckers

For truckers, testing for marijuana continues. Just as with testing for cocaine, amphetamines, PCP, and opioids, testing for marijuana will continue to be conducted on a pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-duty basis.

Heat on the Highway

14 May 2026

As temperatures rise, so do the risks associated with tires, brakes, and overall vehicle condition. Summer heat doesn’t just stress drivers, it amplifies mechanical weaknesses, making maintenance and inspections more important than ever.

The 2026 road construction season is going to be one of the largest in U.S. history and anyone using the roads should be prepared for what’s coming.
